holy cow, Preevu looks AWESOME! Just when I thought I've seen everything. I LOVE how clients can take a picture of their wall and you could preview products right there on their image. I'll check out Proselect later. Thanks for posting this. Maybe I can use this as well as Zenfolio. That Preevu is really sweet-looking.

it's very customizable. i don't agree with this. it's more good than bad. i think the shopping experience could use some work. but the galleries and sites in general are among the best out there.

also this has been requested multiple times. you should search Paypal on this site and vote on one of the existing requests rather than start from 1 vote.

i think part of the reason they do it this way is to differentiate between those orders in which they take a cut, and those self-fulfilled orders (on premium accounts) where they don't take a cut. or some other accounting reason.

but not providing a proper solution for this is not fair to us or our clients. the checkout process should be fluid and we shouldn't have to deal with multiple payment sources and companies.

there is indeed an option to expire a gallery and set up an auto- reminder email before it expires. so you ARE able to offer special rates for purchases before that expiration.

but i'm not sure how crucial it is though for the countdown to start upon first login. you can just set the gallery to expire, and immediately after send an email with a link to the folder and details of the promo. From that email they'll see how long they have to get in on the promo. So why give the extra time until their first login? I mean it's a nice thought, but that allows them procrastinate further and forget about it. the whole point is to increase the sense of urgency.

i'm not an expert yet as I only signed up less than a month ago, but i think the answer is to create one gallery, but several collections that link to different photos within that single gallery. i'd be more thorough but i need to review the guidelines first. but again, i urge you to just email support. they do answer questions fairly quickly. if it's something complicated and you're not making headway with support, i'd go to the forum or just play around yourself.

I mean ZF email support does reply within a couple hours.

    1) Only share the gallery link with your client
    2) Turn off search in the main group containing all client galleries
    3) Turn off any links on the website itself to "featured" or recently added" galleries.

As far as I know, this should do it. If I'm wrong, please let me know.

Questions pertaining to the service should be emailed to ZF. This is really for suggestions and rarely do people comment quickly unless it's a popular suggestion. They do reply within a couple hours. There is also a forum (http://forums.zenfolio.com/) for such questions, but you'll get answers quicker by emailing them.

really, Pass or Vend should license out their gallery view to other companies like Zen or sell it as an option for ZF sites. Pass & Vend definitely have the best viewing experience.

The fact is it's not just the viewing experience, but also the shopping experience and there has to either be a balance of the two if combined. Or maybe different views - one for purchases and one for browsing. Both need improvements here. But the cart experience should really be the main priority I think for ZF. The slideshow and galleries are pretty nice. It's the cart that's a bit dated and needs improvements.

Why not just create a custom HTML page and use a third party for those other things like newsletters etc? ZF needs to improve design/checkout/user experience before they get sidetracked with these minor conveniences that would be better served by a dedicated product on a custom page.

i totally agree. there needs to be a way for customers to upload their own photos and order our products from those as well. it can't be that we need two different carts, or separate payment methods to do so. if the shopping experience is complicated, people will just go elsewhere. their photos don't need to be added to our gallery, but they should be able to upload simply for the transaction at hand even if they are not saved at all for the future. i wonder if they're trying to save up the bandwidth for paid subscribers by not allowing visitor uploads.

thumbs up to the photo wall. and perhaps the product catalog can have a similar visual layout so customers can easily see all the products we offer.

On my site, I have the filename displayed below the photos in the favorites folder. You may need to enable captions to display and/or set the filename as the caption. Not sure if that is related. You can also turn off the sequence number display under Customize>>Options. That should get rid of one source of confusion.

Despite this, the sequence number is not all that bad. Using the Lightroom image list export plug-in, you can pull up the client's proper sequencing, by switching to manual sort in Lightroom after importing the image list.

Also, when clients share the favorites folder with you from within the favorites gallery, there is space to include a message. So they shouldn't need to send extra emails.

Hopefully this is helpful somewhat, though I do agree that clients should have the ability to add captions/notes to individual photos.

Instead of the favorites function, you can also create a self-fulfilled digital product where there is the ability to add a note along with the 'product.' Here they can describe what they want done with a particular image.

Apparently, using the image list export plug-in for Lightroom, the clients' sort order can be maintained. I was happy to discover this. You simply need to change to manual sort within Lightroom for the changes to be reflected on Lightroom. The Lightroom plug-in can be beneficial for some since you then don't necessarily need to upload full images to Zenfolio to fulfill self-fulfilled products.

Still, I think it would be nice to have the option above (appending sort number to file name) so you don't need to go through the step of exporting an image list CSV, importing it into Lightroom and and then doing a batch rename to make those sort changes available in other applications.

i mean best fit should be the default paper choice. fit to media should be the default crop/print setting. and it would be nice if you are prompted to adjust only those with a white border remaining.

    photoguy92849 commented  ·

First off, thanks Zen for having "Best Fit" in the first place. Some places either crop or have "fit to print" (with white borders) and don't have a large selection of sizes, so fit to print sometimes is the only feasible option for a large order.

however, i find that "Best Fit" doesn't always appear. i had an image nearly square and there was no Best Fit option!

Having a large variety of print sizes is great, but it can be confusing to clients who are just used to 4x6, 5x7 etc and don't understand the cropping issues.

Only showing the "Best Fit" option is really a good idea. Other options can be hidden in a second folder marked "for advanced users - may require adjustments." A step beyond this would be if the system could actually detect white borders and only display those items for crop adjustments. Fit to media should really be the default setting.
