Option for people to request to be added to mailing list
An option displayed "Please add me to your mailing list" which automatically updates the Contacts list would be invaluable. Currently you only get people's details is theyleae a comment or email you but most people only browse and do not leave comments.

Has anything ever come of this? I'd be interested in having this option for my clients!

Yes this would be highly used. It's much easier for a interested party to get added to a newsletter so you can inform them on new products

Hey all - let me know if you're interested in this and if you'd pay for such an app. We recently hired a developer to enable exporting details of all groups (client name, email, group URL etc) to then be imported into the email marketing service of your choice. This way, I could send customized mass emails with sale announcements along with a client's unique link. And you could add anything else to the email such as suggested in this idea. For example:
Dear [Name],
It's holiday time and we're having a huge sale... Check out your photos at [Link] and order away!
The name and link will be loaded from a database which is updated every time a new group is uploaded to Zenfolio. Additionally clients will be able to create their own password their first time and modify or request deletion of their photos.

Something similar to Wordpress' Jetpack Subscription feature would be nice. Just a simple 1 field form asking for an email address with a button that says "Subscribe" or something like "GO." It sends an email for confirmation of the subscription, and upon confirmation automatically adds the address to the Zenfolio Contact List. Ideally this wouldn't have to be a separate page and could be small and incorporated into the header or footer so it was always visible to the viewer.

I am interested in something very similar to this. I want a page that my visitors can go to, to subscribe to my monthly email newsletter. The update of a gallery would be nice too, but not really what I need/want.

If you set galleries to ask, or require, registration then you will collect email addresses in your contact list.
The ability to add an email sign up form would be nice. I know several I've looked at that can be embedded with a block of HTML.

This is a key marketing feature and is needed to help businesses grow at this difficult time

This is a really basic feature that should already be possible. I hope zen adds this ASAP...

I agree with clocktower ... I have clients that I shoot for that could subscribe to a gallery and as photos are added, maybe just once a day, they get an email saying items were added to gallery, much like box.net does now. It would save a great deal of time uploading, then pulling up client email addresses, composing emails, then sending them out.
Vin, the customer is subscribing, so the email verification is not needed. They are not gaining content, just being notified of content. If they don't want the email, they just don't subscribe. -
Without email verification (the user has to click a link to validate the email address is actually real) subscriptions are useless. Many people put fake addresses to get access to content...we should be able to enforce this with the application.

I'd like the ability to also enter email addresses that I would like updates sent to when I make changes to a gallery or add images to a gallery. If the users/clients would like to subscribe to a gallery I would like them to have the same ability.

If I understand this correctly I think it's what I would also like. I would like the ability for me to enter email addresses that would be notified by email with a link to the gallery/image that I've uploaded to my site. The ability for users/customers to subscribe to this feature when I make changes would be great too.

As iMac says it is saved in to your contacts but the spirit of Bill's point is good. Other fields available or customizable so in contacts we could keep track of opt-outs, do not calls, let customer opt-out saving address from shopping cart to contacts so we have one stop exportability? Just sayin'... :-)

I agree. When the first thing that pops up when clicking on my link is a generic login page asking for name and email address, even if optional, it scares them away. I've been told this by a lot of people.

I would love to be able to have the option of adding a button on my home page so that when visitors come to my website they could click on a button and add their emails, which would then be added to a client list.

I think Zenfolio is the BEST proofing company around but the only thing they lack is great email marketing like pictage. I know pictage receives a lot of flak for their aggressive email marketing, but their recent improvements make it a huge advantage for photographers. If Zenfolio doesnt want to head that way I totally understand but mail just have a good integration with someone who does like Mail Chimp.

Anyone that fill out the information now does get saved to your contact list. Example: If you have the Name & E-Mail set to required the visitor would have to fill it in to get access to the gallery, if they fill it in this information is saved in your contact list. If you make those fields optional and the visitor doesn't fill them in then nothing gets saved to your contact list they will get access to the gallery, you will get a E-Mail in either case if you have that option turned on.
