Custom options for self-fulfilled products
I'd like to be able to add some options for customers to choose from on self-fulfilled products. Such as paper type, colors, finish, etc. A few preset ones would be fine along with the option to add my own.
I think Shipping Options for Premium members would be a good topic to have a video or webcast about. There is a lot of confusion within Zenfolio's own support ranks on how the Small/Medium/Large/XLarge shipping options are handled within the tool and it is not clear at all in the documentation how products need to be set up to trigger the different sizes.
The last support rep told me that in order for a medium size package to be used the client would need to order both a small size product AND a medium size product, in which case the small product would then be shipped with the medium product. The documentation makes it sound like when you order enough of a small product, it will use the medium package price when necessary. Quote: "*A self-fulfilled product is only designed to use one package size. By entering the number of smaller packages that will fit inside the next size up, an order for that product will be able to ship using that next size up when warranted." The "when warranted" part is not defined at all.
What we need is to be able to allow the number of small packages dictate whether a medium package should be used or the number of medium packages to dictate whether a large package should be used. I honestly don't see how it's set up now would even be possible or practical for self-fulfilled products.
For example, I offer a special calendar that I make and sell. This is a small package if they only order one, which most people do, but many clients order 6 or 10 of them to give out as Christmas gifts. I'd like to be able to say that if they order 3 calendars, it is bumped up to a medium shipping option. If they order 10, it is considered large. If they order 20, it is X-Large. As it is now, if they order 10, it multiplies the small size price by 5. So even though I can get close to a fair price for shipping, I'm undercharging most people, and overcharging others. I ended up setting the small package shipping to $1.75 so I didn't end up cheating the clients ordering more product at one time (who actually should be getting a better shipping deal anyway). I was told to offer a coupon to make up the difference, but that only makes sense if EVERYONE gets the coupon. You can't just offer some people and not others.
More common sense and intuitive shipping methods for self-fulfilled products!
I have just signed up to zenfolio and I love it, however I have a suggest which I hope you will incorporate.
At the moment with self-fulfilled products I need a new item for every different size, frame design etc.
Please can you incorporate a simple drop down menu for choices.
Eg. Frame Type: Oak/Brown/Wood etc
Size: 15x10, 12x8 etc
It is such a simple addition and it really would change the experience of zenfolio. Thanks.
We own a small pro photo lab and run a photography business as well. It's very difficult to look professional when we can't give our clients full purchasing capabilities. For example, our lab offers clients that ability to print on a multitude of fine art papers in addition to the standard glossy, lustre, matte, IF they come into our store. The reason I say that is, if I gave them 13 paper options they'd be even more frustrated than they already are. In addition, I'm not able to give them the ability to frame their prints when ordering or do gallery wraps, unless they actually see it in my product options which is already long. If we wanted to give them matte options for their custom framed print, I'd have to list more than 100 frames with more than 100 matte options multiple times. Makes no sense. Needless to say, we loose a lot on up-selling our clients on high margin items.
Is this going to change in the future?
The framed prints user interface from OneVision is very nice.
I would like to have this work for self-fulfilled products. For example I have two other vendors that are not Zenfolio partners. Their products allow are higher end than OneVision and I'd like to create price list options based on these other vendors.
A visual representation of the customer's image in a frame is very powerful and giving them colour options and mount options to choose from would be very nice.
I would really like to be able to add my own categories for the self-fulfilled products, instead of being restricted by the pre-defined list. For example, I want to display a category of 'Matted Prints' on my buy page. There is currently an option to select 'Showcase - Gallery Mats' but it only shows up on buy page as a Showcase category - no mention of Gallery Mats.
Options for self-fulfilled products
If you use products selected from partner labs, the customer has the option to select paper type (chormalux, standard, black & white)... Would like the ability to add options to self-full filled products like the ones listed as well as things like (add name and year to photo)
Say you want to send 4 small reprints and they fit into the shipping category of small that is say charged at £4 and in the same order a medium sized reprint is purchased, which actually has a category of £5 - the system currently adds the £4 to the £5 making a total shipping charge of £9 when you just wanted the higher shipping charge to prevail of all the orders!! i.e. the smaller prints will fit into the larger package so we really need an override button on the shipping options that selects the highest shipping charge only depending on what has been purchased and doesn't combine them necessarily!
I think Zen is great, but, there are options I think we need, for those who want to use other labs to fulfill our orders. I really think there needs to be product customization options, finishes like linen or pebble etc., matting, matting color, frame type, mounting, type of mounting, etc. without have to create the same product 20 times for 20 different options. The possible combinations of self fulfilled products is enormous, the the ability to create our own custom options and apply them would be fantastic. Not to mention the ability to create custom options for rights managed, like country or state, publication type, size; full page 1/2 page, 1/4 page. etc. There is a company out there now that provides these options standard - totally customizable with as many options as we choose to provide . Please let us know if these options are being considered. Please don't let us hang out in limbo. Let us know one way or the other.
managing self fulfill products and wondering if there is a way to get a drop down menu for selected items. For example: I would like to offer Standout Frames. They come standard with a black frame, but I would like the customer to be able to choose a different frame (white, wood, or stainless) from a drop down menu for an added price. I see on the vendor products they offer the drop down menu but I would like to offer this feature for self fulfill as well.
We need to be able to configure the self fulfilled products w/ various options
It would be really nice if the "Finishing and Mounting" tab were available to offer self-fulfilled mounting and matting options for my self-fulfilled products.
I would like to be able to add multiple photos of the products to better show the product from different angles and show off the features. Most sites show at least 5 photos of the products. If we had the ability to add our photos to the product photo, it would help us sell many more products. We could show different images on the product so it would give the customer ideas.
Also, I wish the custom products could be shown like a store page and we could have the ability to let the customer upload their own photos. I have a store on my website but I currently use a different partner. I would use Zenfolio exclusively if they would move the products out where the customer could see them. Being able to preview the photo they choose on the product before they place the order would be awesome Like ArtsCow.com does. This may be asking too much but it would really make me happy :) I think we could sell many more products if this was added.
It would be useful to be able to add a drop down menu to a product item, so that a customer can choose between different frame options, for example...
BLACK box frame
WHITE box frame
SILVER box frame

This would be very useful as we use Zenfolio for our lighting business and would like to sell our own products that are not related to Photography, i.e. lighting cable - same product, just lots of different colours
This is the one issue that will ultimately make me decided whether to continue this service or not. I'm about to offer products that none of the partners offer and all come in different sizes/colors.

The ability to add/sell self-fulfilled, non-photography items would be a bonus.
Any update - under view for over a year... Would love to be able to treat self-fulfilled similar to vendor fulfilled. Cannot imagine a technical reason that it should not be available - just turn it on please.
YESYESYESYESYES!!! Instead of needing to create 10 different versions of the same product (that are just different sizes) let us have a few custom drop down menus. For example, I sell a Smart iPad case. I want to have one case, that has a drop down menu to choose which model iPad, the color, and have the price be adjusted based off of their choices.
I want to be able to offer digital edits for my self-fulfilled products.

I would love to be able to upload templates to self fulfilled products. I could sell as sports towel, where they drag in their image, type name in node, Year in node. Then when I saw the order, I could "download" this image and use it to order since it is to spec. YES, this would save me HOURS and I would be much more likely to use this for all my sports and sing your praises to every photographer and non photographer who would hear me!!!!!! Seriously, I would. I might even send cookies.
It would also be helpful to have packages that allow a limited number of different photos to be placed into a group of products. A Senior portrait session offering a series of different size prints and say allowing the choice of 3 images to be purchased in that package, though there may be 50 images to choose from.

Adding categories to self fulfilled products list would be a very welcomed feature. I am currently self fulfilling orders for a custom t-shirt I offer and I had to create individual items for each type of shirt and size, ie. Womens Small, Womens Medium, Mens Large, Mens XLarge, etc. There are currently 34 different items in my self fulfilled list just for this one product. And forget about making changes to the product description, that usually takes me more than 3 hours.
Would love to see this change implemented, I will be casting all my votes for this one.

I agree with most everything in this thread. Not having the proper tools to build a self-fulfilled store front has been a large headache and requires way to much time. Unless this is addressed this will probably be my last year with Zenfolio as there are other services that are much more geared toward the self-fulfilling artist.

I wouldn't leave it up to the customer to choose their paper type and finish.. they don't know what will look best :)!
You can upload your own product images. A lot of companies will even give you stock images to use to help sell the product.
It would be nice to be able to put "Album" -> "select size" type thing vs 3 separate entries.
Not a huge deal but does clutter it up a little.

This would be great i currently sell 3 types of USB stick it would look so much more professional to have 3 options under USB stick rather than 3 separate products
Totally agree that it would be a HUGE win to have some product options for self fulfilled products including paper type, mounting options, size….please, oh please ZF!!!
Add the flexibility of Fine Art America to the UI of.this site and you'd have a winner.
I also offer photo shirts and need to have the different sizes listed.

There are 2 approaches to marketing work.
-Sell everything at every size in every finish no matter the shot. This is pure product marketing.
-The individual who has placed a lot of effort in getting certain things just right and actually wants to proof each print by themselves, selling fewer sizes on fewer finishes, using premium papers and inks. These individuals consider themselves artists. Artists require control over the processes they engage.
For instance I have a series of non-photographic prints on handmade paper of odd size and each is very unique because each sheet of paper is very different. They are marketed towards print collectors who are attracted by that uniqueness as they stand out by their own physicality.
I could say the same thing about a photograph that works better on a certain paper at a certain size as it becomes an individual object in itself, no longer just another digital print.
There is nothing wrong trying to market all our work, (using these services seems to be a great method) but there are those rarer works that we as artists attempt to elevate as fine art.
(This is not necessarily about print cost. The works described above are not expensive.)
So the question becomes, why can't ZF also help the artist-in-all-photographer's by providing better tools to help market what we consider our best work as individual objects to collectors?
People, can we all please have your help here promoting this suggestion to the top? This is a dis-functional piece of Zenfolio that needs to be corrected. We need votes. Unfortunately, as others have pointed out, the older forums are littered with suggestions and requests to straighten out self-fulfillment but they were never aggregated back into this suggestion thread when the new forums and user service went online. Give up a vote or three and let's make this happen. Please.......
SERIOUSLY! Zenfolio! I'm still in my trial, and almost immediately, starting have the same reaction and questioning support about all these same issues. Considering how much work you put into a fulfillment system for your trading partners, this smacks of complete disrespect for US your trading partners. After all, aren't you actually selling web-hosting and e-commerce services? Your self-fulfillment system should have been as developed as your trading partner fulfillment system from the beginning. It's like you handed that portion of the system to someone with a lobotomy. I've even seen screen presentations someone made showing YOU how to correct this and everyone is telling you it's a simple as allowing us to name our own categories with the inclusion of sub-categories. It's not rocket science and totally unbelievable that your code team doesn't understand what's going on here. I'm pretty sure if they work with a data back end then they understand the idea of a 'table'. product->productattributes->shippingcost->price
WE UNDERSTAND we have to manage our own product schedules and information manually. Maybe you could find a way to actually make that possible and even give us a decent way to enter the info? This needs to be addressed immediately! If I want to use your trading partners it's great that you offer them, but it doesn't really service the interests of my customers and I certainly should not be paying you for ordering services to trading partners where some have even noted the pricing structure is more than what's offered on the partners site. Are you offering web-hosting and e-commerce services or are you selling partner products!?!

I would put all my votes here if I could.
This is basically the biggest hole if my ZF set up now.
Even if ZF did not offer presets, I would happily enter my own.
They also need to offer better product images. I'm not sure what to do here, but I am sure that some one can come up with a good solution.
If you summated all of votes and comments about enhancing self fulfillment into one place, this would likely be one of the highest vote getters. Too bad forum moderators could not merge similar suggestions into "super" suggestion topics.
